Why Mondays Feel Like a Plot Against Me (And Probably You, Too)

Let’s be honest: Mondays are just different. They’re that friend who shows up to the party too early and then talks your ear off about their new hobby. And as someone who battles the Monday Blues every week, I’ve decided to get to the bottom of why Monday seems to have it out for me. I mean, isn’t it weird how Friday and Saturday feel like high-energy, social butterflies while Monday feels like the designated alarm-clock day?

The Great Monday Mystery

First off, Mondays feel longer. Scientifically, time should flow the same every day, but my personal calculations prove that an hour on a Monday is 1.5 times longer than any other day. By 10 a.m., I feel like I’ve lived through a full workday and aged a year. Tuesday through Friday, coffee is my friendly sidekick. But on Monday, it’s an urgent rescue mission. I chug coffee like I’m preparing for an Olympic event in “Fastest Transition from Zombie to Human.”

Monday’s Secret Agenda

I firmly believe Monday has a secret agenda. Consider this: the random work issues, the mysteriously impossible deadlines, and the emails that seem to breed like bunnies over the weekend. It’s as if Monday knows exactly where to hit where it hurts. Any plans to ease into the week? Foiled. Any thoughts of being organized? Sabotaged.

And it’s not just work. Even outside of the 9-to-5, Mondays have a way of making life feel harder. That outfit I thought was cute on Sunday now looks like I got dressed in the dark. I accidentally start pouring orange juice in my coffee. The universe seems on board with making Monday a mini disaster movie.

The Weekend Hangover

By Sunday evening, I’m still living in the dream that my weekend was just a preview of the rest of my life, full of relaxation and occasional productivity. Monday smashes that fantasy. My body? Still in weekend mode. My brain? Still on Netflix’s “Are you still watching?” setting.

Why We Still Do It

Mondays are like vegetables. We don’t want them, but they’re somehow good for us. They jolt us back to reality, forcing us into action—even if that action is only looking like we’re functioning adults. Mondays are rough, awkward, and far too ambitious for their own good, but they do get us going. And at the end of the day, we get to feel that sweet sense of survival, like we’ve tackled an obstacle course and lived to tell the tale.

So, to all my fellow Monday warriors: here’s to surviving the most misunderstood day of the week. Let’s just get through this one so we can bask in the glory of Tuesday! Ebrace the Strugglezz and Conquer the Peak!!
